Interview with FIBA Agent Robert Green

I recently got the opportunity of dm interviewing Robert Green, a FIBA agent and founder of the P&G Basketball League.
My first question for him was about what he did as a FIBA agent. His answer was:

..."As an agent, I scout/identify players that I can feel confident in as professionals both on and off the court.
"The players and I communicate about their ultimate goals and create a plan of action
I then identify teams/systems that fit their specific abilities and long term vision for their careers.
"This requires watching a ton of film, on the player and the prospective team.
"Sometimes you get players returning from rough seasons, gap years, injuries etc and in these case you have to take a half step back and create a list of priorities that will get them back on track. Gap year guys need new film, guys with down years need a place where they have an opportunity to build their numbers.
"I also deal with the immigration aspect, this business is communication, negotiation,  immigration, and then basketball. This is all prior to the season beginning which then brings a different set of responsibilities, making sure the player is being paid and everything that was promised contractually to them is received, as well as making sure that they're fulfilling their responsibilities to them team. Business can never be one-sided, if it is, it isn't business at all.
It's a world well beyond negotiation, most interactions never reach the negotiating phase and when they do it's about protecting your players interests, as well as being as fair to the team as possible. Everyone should win, this is how long term relationships are forged."

Man, that's a tough job! You really have to be dedicated and on the ball for this one!

My last official question for Robert was, "What athletes have you worked with?"
He replied, "I've worked with players at varying levels, some with NBA experience and others from the smallest american universities and European youth programs you can imagine. If I believe in what I see on film and the character I see, I'll do everything in my power to get them to their personal finish line."
That's a guy who's gonna get the job done or do everything in his power to do it!
That concludes some great insight from someone who has worked with NBA players to achieve their best!
